About the challenge

Welcome to the High School Community Finance Hackathon hosted by HackSphere. This hackathon is designed to inspire young innovators to develop creative solutions that can help strengthen our community through the power of finance. Whether it’s building an app that helps individuals manage their money, provides financial literacy, or supports local businesses, your goal is to create something that can have a meaningful mpact.

The challenge: Develop an app using Python that helps the community in some way related to finance. Your solution should address a real-world problem, and your app should be accessible for users of all backgrounds. Think outside the box! Your app could help people save money, make smarter financial decisions, or manage debt. Your project should be user-friendly and demonstrate a clear understanding of financial principles.

Get started

To begin, form your team—either work solo or with a group maximum of 4 participants. Next, identify a specific issue in the community that your app could address, such as budgeting, saving, investment tracking, or supporting local businesses through financial tools. Once you've picked the issue, plan the features of your app, making sure your solution is simple and solves the identified issue. It's important to design your app with the end user in mind, ensuring it’s easy to use for a wide audience. After the planning phase, start developing your app using Python. You can use apps like Flask, but VS code or REPL.it is recommended. The goal is to create a working app that shows your programming skills while addressing a real-world financial problem. If you want to go above and beyond, consider adding a risk management feature that helps users assess and mitigate financial risks, such as risks in investments, saving, or budgeting. This added feature increases your chances of placing top 3 as it shows how well you understand the topic.
